International Project Week: 13 students immersed in Copenhagen

From April 20th to 24th, 13 second-year students from the Civil Engineering and Sustainable Construction department took part in the International Project Week (IPW) in Denmark. This major European event focused on urban innovation, skill-sharing, and international cooperation.

A European crossroads for tomorrow's engineering

Under glorious sunshine, DTU Engineering Technology hosted this year's IPW. The event brought together more than 150 students from 8 different countries: Scotland, Italy, Quebec, Latvia, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and, of course, France.

For one week, our students stepped out of their usual classrooms to face the realities of Danish engineering, which is world-renowned for its pioneering approach to sustainability.

A high-level technical program

It was a total immersion. The rich and intense program allowed students to go behind the scenes of Copenhagen's major infrastructure:

  • Technical conferences: analysis of the city's large-scale construction sites, including sub-sea tunnels, the expansion of the tramway network, and the design of low-energy buildings,
  • Resource management: an in-depth study of the Danish capital's water treatment systems, a crucial issue for future graduates in sustainable construction,
  • Field visits: discovery of iconic architectural projects and a technical visit to the tramway maintenance depot.

Taking on the "International Challenge"

Beyond the technical aspects, the IPW is, above all, a human adventure. The heart of the week centered on an inter-university challenge. Working in multicultural teams, our students collaborated in English to solve complex construction and urban planning problems.

A valuable experience for the Civil Engineering and Sustainable Construction department

By participating in such events, IUT Lyon 1 reaffirms its commitment to international mobility. For our future technicians, this week in Denmark is a real asset on a CV: it demonstrates the curiosity and adaptability that are essential in today's building and public works sector.

Congratulations to the 13 participants for their dedication and professionalism during this Danish week! A special thank you to the organizers and staff: Raphaël GAND, Olivia BILLANDON, and Guillaume TISSEYRE.
