We celebrate multiculturalism with International Week!

From March 9th to 13th, IUT Lyon 1 highlighted global openness during its annual International Week. Held across our three campuses (Bourg-en-Bresse, Villeurbanne Doua and Gratte-Ciel), this event brought together students and staff with a shared goal: making modern languages and multiculturalism a vibrant part of daily life.

A world tour across our three campuses

Throughout the week, participants enjoyed a rich and immersive program, tailored locally to each site to encourage curiosity and intercultural exchange:

  • At the Bourg-en-Bresse campus: participants tried their hand at board games in English, discovered Arabic calligraphy, and learned introductory phrases in Russian, Arabic, and Persian, led by our international students. The library also hosted a large collaborative puzzle themed around international discovery.
  • At the Villeurbanne Doua campus: the hallways came alive with quizzes testing language skills and displays showcasing cultural traditions from around the world. GEA (Business and Administration Management) students brilliantly organized dedicated workshops as part of their"International Week 2026" project.
  • At the Villeurbanne Gratte-Ciel campus: highlights included an "Escape Game", the popular "Who is the Werewolf?" game, and language tasters in Swedish, Italian, and Vietnamese. A Canadian-style pancake tasting and the active involvement of the "Melting-Pot" student association rounded off the festivities.

Preparing for mobility: opportunities around the globe

Beyond the cultural activities, International Week is a key moment for students to build their professional and academic projects abroad. Inspiring testimonials from students who have completed internships or study semesters abroad were displayed to encourage future candidates.

Cross-departmental webinars allowed students to interact directly with several of our international partners:

  • Germany: Heilbronn University,
  • Norway: University of South-Eastern Norway (USN),
  • Quebec: ÉTS Montréal (Engineering school),
  • Malaysia: UTP University,
  • Career Focus: a conference by Business France dedicated to the V.I.E program (International Volunteer in Business) provided essential insights into professional opportunities abroad.

A collective success

An event of this scale would not be possible without strong internal mobilization. We would like to warmly thank the IMI service (International Mobility Engineering) for their flawless coordination of this project, especially our International Relations project managers (Anne DAUMAS and Marie ROBIN).

Special thanks also go to the teachers involved, the highly active student groups (Melting-Pot and International Week), and the libraries that decorated our spaces in global colors. A special mention to the university restaurants, which launched the theme a weekearly by creating a special international menu. Finally, we extend our gratitude to our international partners for their availability and support.

IUT Lyon 1 proves once again that international mobility is at the very heart of its DNA.

Congratulations to everyone who dared to discover!
